Polanyi’s Relevance

In a previous post, I summarized an article by Ronaldo Munck which explained the relevance of Karl Polanyi’s analysis. A few days ago, the Sociology Lens had a short post on the related matter of embeddedness:
The prevalence of the conception of the economy as disembedded explains why so much debate over the economic stimulus plan has centered around "what creates jobs" and things like contraceptive programs were discarded as if family planning programs had no impact on the economy. This idea of the economy as disembedded is indeed embraced by conservative because it allows them to fight against social programs (seen as non-economic spending) as if social programs and economic factors were completely separate.
I wonder if anyone in Obama’s administration has read Polanyi. I doubt it considering the influence of University of Chicago graduates on the economic team.
