Cell Phones Stress Tomatoes

February 10th, 2008 by SocProf and tagged , , ,

Via Frogsmoke, a French scientific study reveals that

“After only 10 minutes of exposure to electromagnetic waves from a cell phone, tomatoes generate a stress molecule, well known n to biologists and that only appears when vegetables are damaged.”

According to Le Figaro, this is one additional piece of evidence as to the detrimental effects of cell phones on health.

After the vegetable research, we can expect the same research on human beings. After all, it would be interesting to know whether cell phone usage generates the same stress in people. There is already research conducted in 13 countries to determine whether cell phone usage correlates with negative health effects, such as brain tumors.

Similarly, as Le Parisien states, if indeed such effects are ascertained, what is to be done? Should the precautionary principle apply?
